About Co-Cars

Co-cars offer pay-as-you-go motoring to its corporate and residential members enabling them to save money and reduce negative sustainability impacts.

We are a not-for-profit, co-operative with the objective of supporting, operating and delivering car club services and other sustainable transport activities.

Co-cars aim is to encourage changes in transport behaviour, adding to key policy targets of climate change, transport and health.   In more simplistic terms we're aiming to reduce car usage and increase usage of more sustainable forms of transport.

The reason we're committed to this aim is because of the following local and wider benefits of car clubs:

  • Reduces car usage which in turn reduces:
    • carbon pollution, mitigating the effects of climate change
    • air/noise pollution, reducing health-related problems
    • congestion, benefiting the economy
  • Increases use of public transport, which in turn:
    • Increases investment in services
  • Increases use of local businesses, which in turn:
    • Increases the resilience of the local economy
    • Improves local employment potential
  • Provide low earning groups access to car travel, which in turn:
    • Increases sense of well-being and independence
