Three month trial in Alphington, Exeter
Doctors at Ide Lane Surgery in Alphington have recently offered the use of their car park, and we have agreed to operate a Toyota Yaris hybrid automatic car (pricing band 2) at the surgery. This should be welcome news to all our members living across the River Exe who have been requesting a car closer to them. The Toyota is in the far right bay of the doctor’s parking area, nearest the pharmacy and already available for bookings. Ide Lane Surgery will have dedicated access on weekday afternoons (excluding Bank Holidays), and members can use the car at all other times. This trial will be reviewed after three months, so please help us to make it a succes!

Train + Car service rolls out in Cornwall
New “car club only” bays are being line-painted at Truro and Falmouth Town railway stations. This is part of our efforts to provide joined-up transport solutions; hop off the train and continue by car – ideal for business use, but also great for mini breaks. […]

Co-cars Autumn Newsletter

With Autumn’s natural festival of colour all around us, it’s great to see so many members making full use of the Summer Mileage Offer, which has been extended again. The Co-cars team have also been out & about all summer meeting people and sprouting plans. Working to improve the benefits of Co-cars membership now and in the future. Branching out so there are more cars, in more locations where it makes sense.

Co-cars are celebrating with two BIG announcements; part funding from Carplus / Dept for Transport and support from GWR means we can add 8 new cars, and 4 new towns to the SW fleet. Great news, and then, the news got better; Carplus / Dept for Transport confirms its commitment to part fund, Co-bikes, bringing self service hire by the hour E-bikes to the city of Exeter.

These opportunities together bring real momentum to deliver on-demand low carbon mobility solutions across the SW and all on your one Co-cars membership card!

Wishing you a fabulous October and joyous trips through the autumn colour.

Co-cars PAYG Car Club receives DfT funding for e-Bike Hire Scheme in Exeter/Exe Estuary
One of the first hire-as-you-ride e-bike services in the country

Exeter – 29 September 2015 – Co-cars, the Exeter based business and the fastest growing hire-by-the-hour car club in the South West, today announced that in 2016 it will extend and enhance its offering in Exeter and the Exe estuary area with ‘Co-bikes’. Through this innovative scheme, members will be able to hire ultra-cool, battery-assisted e-bikes by the hour, from dedicated hubs at/in Exeter St. Davids railway station, central Exeter, the University of Exeter, Science Park, Devon County Hall, Digby & Sowton and the Dawlish Warren tourism information centre. 23 bikes will be available initially, but more will be added as the scheme grows.

e-Bikes offer smart consumers 40-60 miles of adjustable, power-assisted pedalling at the flick of a switch. They will provide Exeter’s workers, residents and visitors alike with an easy, healthy and environmentally-friendly way to link and take advantage of the city’s ever expanding network of cycle paths, bus and rail stations, car sharing clubs and business hubs.

The scheme has been part-funded by the Department for Transport through Carplus, Devon County Council and Great Western Railway (GWR), and is actively supported by Exeter City Council.

Co-cars, a not-for-profit social enterprise, secured the funding due to its proven expertise in running financially successful shared transportation schemes, and Exeter’s potential customer base with more than 3 million rail passenger journeys a year and more than 30,000 business staff and students at targeted sign up locations, along with the 500 established sharing users of the Co-cars car club.

Mark Hodgson, founder and managing director of Co-cars said, ‘We’re really excited about this new offering. e-Bikes are the logical […]

Co-cars Topsham car has moved

By |September 5th, 2015|Newsletter|Comments Off on Co-cars Topsham car has moved

Co-cars Topsham car has moved to Tappers Close car park

As from Saturday the 5th September Topsham Co-cars is now in a new marked car bay in Tappers Close car park right next to the train station on the east (‘to Exmouth’ side of the track), see the orange arrow on the map below.. We’ve had to move the car as the library is now owned by Estuary League of Friends, and the car parking spaces are being reduced in readiness for the rebuild of their new centre.

This move also fits with our aim to have the car centrally located in Topsham, in a more visible space and closer to the train station. The car park is managed by Exeter City Council who have been helpful in organising the new bay.
