New Car Locations
Cranbrook – we are thrilled to be extending into the new town of Cranbrook in East Devon. The new Toyota Aygo, based opposite the Younghayes centre, was delivered by Lesley Smith, Co-cars Operations Manager on 5th October. The car is ready to use now, with the official launch taking place on 4th November. Thanks to the Cranbrook housing consortium and Devon County Council.

Greenacres – we will soon be introducing two new cars into the Greenacres (Newcourt) housing development in Exeter. We are working with Persimmon Homes and Devon County Council and are just waiting for the bays to be marked up for a Toyota Yaris in Kings Avenue and a Toyota Aygo in Beatty Avenue. Watch this space and please tell your friends!

Chagford – Co-cars first ‘rural’ car club was launched in Chagford, on the edge of Dartmoor, on 30th September. The car is based in the main town car park which is easily accessible. This extends our network across Devon and helps people have affordable, hassle free cars when they want them. Thanks to Nicky Scott and West Devon Borough Council.

Co-bikes launch

Co-bikes electric bike Launch

Register – Ride – ReturnEasy, Enjoyable, Electric Exeter!
This month we were delighted to launch Co-bikes in Exeter, the UK’s first on-street city electric bike hire scheme. We’ve had a lot of media coverage on BBC Spotlight, BBC Radio Devon and in the Express and Echo (see here for E&E’s great video on how the bikes work). We’ve even had the Transport Secretary, Chris Grayling MP, on one of our e-bikes.

Co-bikes is just like ‘Boris’ bikes in London except they are electric. You can hire from one hub and drop off at another hub, with an integrated bike lock for when you’re stopping elsewhere. We’ve got 3 hubs up and working so far; at Central station, the University and Digby Park and Ride. Next month bikes will be available from hubs at the Civic Centre and Devon County Council, with more coming in 2017. The bikes are fun, affordable and an easy way to travel – you don’t have to be an experienced cyclist. Each Co-bike offers pedal assisted electric power up to 15mph, effectively making the hills in Exeter feel flat and perfect for travelling between meetings, dashing around town or a trip down the estuary without breaking a sweat! And you won’t run out of juice as they’ve a 50 mile range!

Bikes can be hired at the docking hubs, or via our nextbike App, or as members of Co-cars you can register to use your existing Co-cars membership card – simply register here or at www.co-bikes.co.uk and add your Co-cars membership number. Prices start from just 75p per 30 minutes for an annual member, or you can join just as a Pay As You Ride member. You can also hire an additional three bikes on your membership card, for a family or friends day out. You have to be 16 years or older to ride the bikes. There is much more information available on the website at www.co-bikes.co.uk

Co-bikes is part funded by BikePlus and the Department for Transport, Devon County Council, Great Western Railway, Exeter City Council, the University of Exeter and Co-cars.

UK national car club survey
This year we are part of the UK national car club survey and we would really appreciate it if you could give feedback on us and car clubs, by completing this national survey. It will also help us understand your needs and develop our services. The survey is managed by the UK trade body for car clubs, CarPlus, a not-for-profit, environmental transport non-governmental organisation, working for accessible shared cars and bikes. Co-cars Pricing Structure, have YOUR say!
After much thought, we introduced our new tiered pricing structure on 1st September. We now offer a lower starting hourly rate of £3.75 and a lower daily hire rate of £25, on any day of the week. We compared our prices with other car clubs and we are more cost effective across the wide range of cars we have available. However, we want to know what you think and whether the prices have affected how you use our cars, as well as your ideas on future pricing. Please let us have your feedback by emailing drive@co-cars.co.uk.

Co-cars - A members story

A member’s story
Ellen joined Co-cars in January 2016 after changing jobs and giving up a company car. She said “I wanted access to a car but without the hassle of having to pay for all the upkeep. Co-cars was the perfect solution. I have access to a car whenever I need one without any of the hassle or expense of owning my own. There are six cars all within walking distance of my house and always at least one available when I need it. I love not having to worry about repair bills out of the blue and I LOVE having a parking space dedicated for each car. Financially, joining Co-cars has definitely saved me money. I use the car on average, once a week and I estimate I save at least £1,000 a year. Its only £25 to join – why wouldn’t you!”

20:20 New Member Referral Offer
Don’t miss out on your opportunity to get £20 driver’s credit by referring a friend or family member. Once they join and use the cars, you will both get the driver’s credit. The promotion has to be applied for and the credit used by 31st December.
