Three month trial in Alphington, Exeter

Doctors at Ide Lane Surgery in Alphington have recently offered the use of their car park, and we have agreed to operate a Toyota Yaris hybrid automatic car (pricing band 2) at the surgery. This should be welcome news to all our members living across the River Exe who have been requesting a car closer to them. The Toyota is in the far right bay of the doctor’s parking area, nearest the pharmacy and already available for bookings. Ide Lane Surgery will have dedicated access on weekday afternoons (excluding Bank Holidays), and members can use the car at all other times. This trial will be reviewed after three months, so please help us to make it a succes!

Train + Car service rolls out in Cornwall

New “car club only” bays are being line-painted at Truro and Falmouth Town railway stations. This is part of our efforts to provide joined-up transport solutions; hop off the train and continue by car – ideal for business use, but also great for mini breaks. Both railway stations will have new Toyota Yaris hybrid automatic cars (pricing band 2) that will be launched in April. Truro will also have a new Toyota Aygo manual car (pricing band 1) at Pydar Street car park. All this has been made possible through funding and support from Cornwall Council, Carplus, Department for Transport and Great Western Railways. As soon as the paint has dried we’ll be marking up more bays at Plymouth and Newton Abbot railway stations.

New Co-bikes terminals now live and it’s still only £1 to join

The new terminals at the Civic Centre and County Hall are now live for you to hire the self-service, electric bikes. There are now five docking hubs across Exeter. It’s easy to join and you still only need to deposit a £1 credit to register. Perfect for getting out and about over the Easter break, getting to a business meeting or community to work. Being electric assisted, you don’t get ‘hot and bothered’ cycling up hills; it’s like riding on the flat.

Co-car-booting in Salisbury

We have been combining car club promotion and charity fundraising by taking part in the monthly car boot sales on Salisbury’s beautiful Market Square. Last year we raised a total of £170 in aid of the flood response charity ServeOn, and this year we are collecting on behalf of Salisbury Trust for the Homeless. Unsuspecting punters, whilst browsing for bric-a-brac underneath the orange Co-cars banner, get told (whether they like it or not) about car clubbing, money saving and the benefits of not owning a car.

“How does it work again?”

It’s easy to get rusty with how to use a smartcard and the in-car computer system. This is why we offer refresher training to all our members, whether you joined recently or yonks ago. Richard and Stephanie Johnson, a couple of our earliest members, recently had a “WD40 session” and have started using Co-cars again for weekend trips away! To book your refresher call 0345 345 2544 or email drive@co-cars.co.uk

No need for a spring clean, just help us keep things tidy

When you come back from your spring walk in the countryside, please remember: we valet and check all cars regularly, but unlike a car hire company our cars don’t get valeted after each use, so we need your co-operation in keeping them reasonably clean. Please give the mats a quick shake or sweep. Dustpan and brush are in the boot or underneath the boot liner. And if you’ve managed to get half a field onto the paintwork – you can use the fuel card for a car wash at the petrol station. Quick reminder: no pets unless by written permission; members who leave a car unacceptably dirty may be charged.
